Military history fair.
What a top outing the military history fair in Pretoria turned out to be! Myself and Tonie braved the threat of tolls to trek across the Jukskei to the Voortrekker monument in Pretoria for this years South African Military History Fair. This years event took place in May and it did not disappoint!
There were stalls of all types selling and dealing everything from boere-wors rolls and military history books to Boer War memorabilia and much more. Badges, buttons, guns, knives, medals, silver, tanks, coins and even the oldest metal detector I have ever seen was available for sale. The old detector pictured right was probably world war 2 era. A great display piece for lukas’ Boer War Relics Museum!People tuned out in good numbers and brought along the youngsters who had a ball climbing on tanks and running riot. There were even those who came in full military uniform and brought with their MG 42’s (which we hoped were not loaded). Truly a military history buffs dream.
I picked up a nice Boer War arms and ammunition book, and Tonie got himself some great silver items. We both chowed down on a vast quantity of pancakes before visiting the monument while we were their.
All in all it was a top day out and we can fully recommend that all enthusiasts come out in force next year! We will post details of the next event on Twitter, Facebook and Google + so nobody can say they did not know about it!
At only R20 it is really worth the entrance fee and a drive to the monument!

In the mean time be sure to visit the war museum at the Johannesburg Zoo (opposite Zoo lake) It also has some top items on display and a nice shop to spend your hard earned Madibas.
