Gold prospecting and metal detector depth.
As raw gold nuggets are found on or near the surface all the way to meters below ground, gold detecting is more complex.
It is recommended that you locate as much gold near the surface first before concerning yourself with deeper nuggets. This will allow you to spend less time digging down and more time recovering more gold.
If you would like to detect deep gold, can this be done?
A realistic depth to detect a fair size nugget is around 1,5 meters with the best gold prospecting machine on the market, the Minelab GPX5000.
Depending on soil condition and nugget size a 1,5 meter depth is a realistic max depth for a large nugget.
Deeper than 1,5 meters is not realistic.
Should you wish to detect deeper you would need specialized equipment costing hundreds of thousands (about the same as a house would cost). This equipment is prohibitively expensive and only available if imported from Germany etc.
It is much more cost effective to use a GPX5000, AT Gold or Eureka to remove all you can near the surface.
If you would like to go deeper in a small gold field or hot spot area then consider scraping the surface with a bulldozer and then going over the area again with your gold detector to find deeper gold nuggets.
Deepest detecting gold detectors:
For mid range the Eureka gold and AT Gold are recommended however the deepest detecting gold detector is the GPX 5000 with is 1,5 meter potential depth range.
