Update Silver Rush

April 10, 2013 by Rich Leave a Comment

Update Silver Rush

Update: The new season of Treasure quest is called Silver Rush.

Silver Rush airs around 24 Feb in the united states on Discovery Channel. It is not a full season but rather one or 2 documentaries on the recovery of the Silver from the wreck found by Oddysey north of Ireland.

Oddysey posted this on their Facebook page a while back – A nice hint in a recent video from Oddysey indicated 3 new TV specials would air on Discovery in the first Quarter of 2013! Seems like this has come true.

However we still would love to have a full season for treasure quest. but a few documentaries is better than nothing.

Hope everyone enjoys the new show.

World War 2 Tank found in Lake

January 31, 2012 by Rich 3 Comments

World War 2 Tank found in Lake

After 62 years of hiding in a lake this monster Russian T34/76A has emerged from its hibernation in pristine condition.World Wart 2 Tank found in Lake

The tank was purposefully driven into the lake 62 years ago by Germans while withdrawing along the Narva front in Estonia. Intense battle were fought between the Germans and Russians in the narrow Narva front in Estonia seeing 100,000 men killed.

It was discovered not 62 years later but back in 1944 when a small boy (Kurtna Matasjarv) saw tracks leading into the lake and noticed bubbles coming up. So why was it only uncovered now? 62 years later the same person finally told a leader of a local war history club who went to investigate.

The club dived the waters and detected it on the lake bottom covered in 3 meters of mud. They hired a bulldozer and dragged out the 30 ton tank. Not an easy feat.

Amazingly the tank emerged in perfect condition with not a spec of rust. After a little tinkering the team fired up the Diesel Engine and took it for a spin. The tank has a top speed of 53km/hr. The tank was captured by the Germans from the Russians at the battle of Sinimaed and converted into their own which is why it shows German markings.

The tank will be placed in the war history museum and fully restored. It is an extremely rare find. Not sure you will find many of these with your hobby Metal Detector.

Largest Gold Nugget Ever Found

September 27, 2011 by Rich 1 Comment

The Largest Gold Nugget Ever Found – Welcome Stranger!

Welcome Gold Nugget
Welcome nugget

The largest gold nugget to be pulled out of the soil is known as the Welcome Stanger Nugget. It was discovered by John Deason and Richard Oates back in 1869 in Victoria Australia.

These lucky fellows found the largest gold nugget ever and it weighed in at a refined weight of 2.283 oz. It was also 61 cm by 31 cm. Massive chunk of gold! Take a look at a replica of this stunning piece of gold below.

This is way more than a retirement nugget or the one ounce club!

Can you believe that the two miners were paid only 9,381 pounds sterling for the find. I cant imagine how much it would be worth today! (Maybe I don’t want to)

Such an important find like this deserves to be commemorated and a statue has been erected at the location where the biggest Gold Nugget ever found was located. You could go and see it for yourself in Victoria.

Other large gold nuggets have been found including the “Welcome Nugget” also found in Australia. Although all these big gold nuggets were all found way back in the past this does not mean that no more exist!

Largest Gold Nugget Ever Found
Welcome Stranger

No man can cover all the earth in search of gold. My bet is that even larger ones lie undisturbed across the globe waiting for you to stumble across. All you may need is a Gold Detector, some hard work and a bit of luck.

The Largest gold piece ever found with a metal detector is known as the “Hand of Faith” and is pictured below. Found by Kevin Hillier yet again in Australia in 1980. This baby weighed in at 27.21 kg’s!

The Latest Find was made in Ballarat Australia on January 16th 2013 by an Australian using a Minelab GPX5000. Worth around $500 000 it weighed in at 5.4 kilograms.

Most Valuable Metal Detecting Finds

September 12, 2011 by Rich 3 Comments

Has anyone found anything valuable with a Metal Detector?

What a question. In the day and age of the internet that anyone is still asking this question is pretty funny as more and more news floods in about amazing finds being made.Valuable metal detecting finds

We have put together a short list of some of the more valuable metal detecting finds of recent times.

If you are not convinced after this then you never will be.

And if 3 year olds are finding relics valued at 2.5 million Pounds then we should all get out there and try our luck.

Your chances are better than winning the lottery.

This list focuses on valuable relics and coins – but hugely valuable Gold Nuggets are also found.

Read about the largest gold nuggets ever found here (one of these was in 2013!)

Example 1 – 52,000 Roman Coin Hoard Worth $1m

A metal Detector enthusiast named Dave Crisp from Wiltshire in the UK was busy detecting on a farm when he found 21 roman coins. When he dug deeper he found a staggering treasure. A pot weighing 160kg’s containing 52500 Roman coins. Experts say the find is worth around $1 million. This one of the largest metal detector finds in the UK. The hoard is now at British museum in London.   The find is now called the Frome Hoard.

Example 2 – 3 year old James Hyatt finds gold locket potentially worth £2.5 million

If you have luck like this kid then you are blessed. 3 year old James Hyatt found a gold locket worth around £2.5 million virtually on his first time out with his dad.
The gold pendant is said to be from the 16th century with the image of the virgin Mary. The pendant was declared a treasure by the British Museum.
Experts think the exceptional locket, or reliquary, was used to hold alleged parts of Christ’s thorn crown or crucifix.

Example 3 – Amateur With Metal Detector Finds Gold Hoard

55 year old Terry Herbert made a metal detecting discovery that changed the world view of Anglo-Saxon peoples. Officially declared a treasure the Staffordshire Hoard contains 650 gold objects and over 530 silver ones including some inlayed with precious stones. One of the greatest treasures ever discovered and worth a 7 figure sum. One of the most valuable metal detecting finds ever!

We hope you enjoyed this sample of valuable metal detecting finds.
